This year’s Social Business Forum (2013) was splendidly held at North South University (NSU) despite the campus’s conditions. The event took place on Saturday 29th June 2013. It was organized by team South Asian Youth Society (SAYS). The event was conjoined by many back to back programs. One of the main programs was ‘The Social Business Plan competition’ organized by North South University Young Economists’ Forum (NSU YEF). This was an exclusive competition intended to bring out innovative ideas in future business students and test their knowledge and creativity in the field of social business which is now drastically growing in the business world ever since the establishment of Dr. Yunus’ Grameen Bank, which is the first of its kind. Besides this, YEF was also in charge of ground control of the event.
The Young Economists’ Forum (YEF) single-handedly hosted the competition. There were contestants from the various universities of Dhaka. Each team consisted of 2 to 3 members. In the first stage of the competition the teams had to come up with a social business idea which met certain criteria. At this stage there were a remarkable number of total participants of about 120 individuals and over 40 groups.
In the second phase of the competitionthe selected teams presented their ideas to a panel of highly expert and talented round of judges. The panelists were eminent faculty members of the School of Business, North South University. It was held in the boys’ lounge of NSU, which was neatly decorated with eye-catching banners and projector and all the other necessities. The competition was charmingly hosted by Ms. Marjouka Binte Shams, a former Young Economist Forum (YEF) member.
Finally, putting an end to everyone’s expectation the winners and the runners up were announced. These 3 teams were given the best chance of all – presenting their ideas to Dr. Yunus himself at the main event which was being held at the plaza center of NSU. As the entire event was nearing to an end, four of the NSU Young Economist Forum (YEF) members were under the limelight of the fashion show.
A total of 100-120 volunteers of NSU Young Economist Forum (YEF) helped execute the event with finesse. The members of YEF never failed to showcase their flair in the smooth execution of such a prestigious event. Despite the campus’s condition due to fire the event was remarkably held by hardworking volunteers of both NSU Young Economist Forum (YEF) and South Asian Youth Society (SAYS).
